Tired of lyrics?

I’m still here and I’m great, thanks 🙂

After a few years break from music I am gathering material for a new album. I’ve had some time on my own recently where I worked intensively on writing lyrics and organizing my ideas. I’ve attached an unnecessarily boring image illustrating this.. also you might notice ChatGPT in the background giving me really useless suggestions for lyrics – ChatGPT is really great for helping with very linear lyrics like the ones you write for a wedding or celebrating release from prison. But it really has some shortcomings when writing the type of lyrics I write. So unfortunately I still have to do the work myself.

Overall I am a little tired of lyrics in general. For the past years I have listened a lot to north African music (Musicians like Bombino, Imarhan, Kel Assouf, Boubacar Traoré and many others) and what I really enjoy about this music is that I don’t understand the lyrics – the singing is more like enforcing a certain mood and I can make up the story of the song on my own. I intend to explore this on my new album – not by making instrumental music, but treat the vocal more as an instrument and make songs in different languages – this also means that I won’t be singing most of the songs myself. I am already working on a few songs in French and I really like where they are going. In these cases I write the lyrics in English and translate it with the help of ChatGPT to ensure that the translation is still singable.
I expect the album to be a bit more atmospheric and calm than my previous albums, but there will also be a few more traditional upbeat acoustic pop songs – maybe with a hint of Bossanova 🙂 Who knows.
