1. Modern Stalker

I wonder why I watch you
Just can’t afford to look away
You keep the loneliness at bay
I recognize your motives
For me you are from heaven send
One-way lovers till the end

Alas, my exit is overdue
Now I know everything you do
And all the things we put you through

I love the way you dumb it down
I love to see your critics frown
How they would love to tear you down
I hate how you’re still standing
How you excel at branding
A bitter pill I swallow still

Alas, my exit is overdue
Now I know everything you do
And all the things we put you through

A loneliness you cannot hide
Both hunter and prey are dead inside
There is nothing left for us to tr

Alas, my exit is overdue
Now I know everything you do
And all the things we put you through
You’re an icon for us all
You’re so boring and that’s fine
Your life is even worse than mine

You being shameless
You get famous
You were the plainest
Now your famous
You turned the tide

I wrote the initial draft of this song many years ago, just as the first season of Big Brother hit the screen. At the time I had a room mate that ended up spending most of her time watching the show. I felt that she was kind of stalking them, from behind the screen. In recent years I have got the feeling that the reality stars are in turn stalking us all – we see them everywhere. They creep into every part of our life without having anything much to offer.

2. Get Up and Fight

No one could ever take you down, but now the tubes are all around
In your eyes I see the fear, but you will climb this wall, you hear?
White gown, hands are touching glass, you’re in isolation
But you will never be alone, we pay you back the love you’ve shown

Get up and fight
There is so much for you to see
Into the light
You need to be here with me

Time stood still, you took a blow, in the bed, in my head it’s like you glow
Oh Dad, you are my man of steel, they say your lungs may fully heal
Outside everything is still. From here on out it’s all downhill
But something good may come of this, we’ll step away from the abyss

Get up and fight
There is so much for you to se
Into the light
You need to be here with me

Numbers flying up the wall. It looks bad, but it isn’t our down fall
We’ll make it through the fire. Then we’ll be going higher
We will get us into gear, we’ll buckle up and overcome our fear
We won’t reflect on what went wrong and hit the next iceberg head-on

Get up and fight
There is so much for you to do
Into the light
We haven’t seen this through

Comments
Get Up and Fight is an emotional and upbeat song about an old father who has been hospitalized and is dying. His son or daughter stands on the other side of the glass and encourages him to fight on. On the surface an uplifting message in trying time, but underneath it also about how we rarely learn from the past and readily hit the next disaster head-on.

3. How We End

You lie there with your phone
Staring into the unknown
Translucent and far apart
The light is breaking my heart

This is how it starts
The distance drives us apart
And this how we end
Our love is being spend, ooh

I don’t understand
If this is part of a plan?
Give me back my life
And give me back my wife, ooh

This is how it starts
The distance drives us apart
And this how we end
Our love is being spend, ooh

Deep beneath
The cold dead surface
Naked alone through the void
You are floating
I see through the veil
You wrap around you

This is how it starts
The distance drives us apart
And this how we end
Our love is being spend, ooh

I don’t understand
If this is part of a plan?
Give me back my life
And give me back my wife, ooh

Comments
The song portrays how technology is bringing us further and further apart to the point where relations fall apart in the glow from our smart phones. Our relations were already degrading before the lock down.

4. Hindsight

Don’t waver, if you wait you won’t be safer
Just close your eyes and let go
There will be no later, time is the great deflator
You blink and the moment will never return

Don’t you know
You could be dying any day
Don’t let anything get away
It is your time
the bells will chime

Weeks of recreation
Born out of isolation
And endless tv-shows

Be your own advisor, and you will be none the wiser
The moment’s gone when you’ve thought it through
And you take chances, most unlikely circumstances
This summer the world is on hold just for you

Don’t you know
You could be dying any day
Don’t let anything get away
It is your time
the bells will chime

You think you got time on your side
But time is no one’s bride
Don’t live a life in hindsight
You think you got time on your side
But time is no one’s bride
Don’t live a life in hindsight

Comments
The message of the song is that you should look ahead, not back.. Well, it is okay to look back, but don’t live in the past. Don’t stop at the threshold and freeze. Enter the room.

5. Please Panic!

So, this is where we stand
No armies to command
With no battle plan
With no faith in man
No thanks to Ayn Rand
Or the US heartland
Now watch the hole expand
The infinite quicksand

So, the lay of the land
There is no helping hand
While forest turn to sand
Lakes to wasteland
This is our final test
Do we die out with the rest?
We cannot overcome
An animal so dumb

There’s no getting out
And the house is on fire

Please Panic will you Please Panic
Please Panic will you Please Panic
We stand on the brink
With no time to think!

Do not stand idle by
While the surroundings die
Please say you’re gonna try
whatever reason why
You’re living on a loan
In your children’s home
The fall of society
Will be your legacy

There’s no getting out
And the house is on fire

Please Panic will you Please Panic
Please Panic will you Please Panic
We stand on the brink
With no time to think!

Growth is not for free
When it’s all me, me, me
Denial is cost free

Please Panic will you Please Panic
Please Panic will you Please Panic
We stand on the brink
With no time to think!

Comments
This song was inspired by a speech that I think Greta Thunberg gave to the EU (it might been have somewhere else, at the time she seemed to be everywhere), where she said that she wanted the politicians to act like the house was on fire. I am not sure she uttered the words “Please Panic!”, but it was the clear message of her speech.

6. Back From the Ashes

Suffering a serious defeat
The creeps come in to nibble at my feet
Someone’s crawling upon the roof
I think he’s peeping in through the holes

My house is where you want go now
Pledge your vow
Join the cash cow

You let go
You tiptoed
You woke up naked and alone

I’m only voice you’ll ever need
They’ve written books about about my deeds
I am the truth that nothing can surpass
I can bring you back from your ashes

My house is where you want go now
Pledge your vow
Join the cash cow

You let go
You tiptoed
You woke up naked and alone

Lift your arms in the air
Let the Lord know you’re there
Alright, alright we’re getting somewhere, yeah
Lift your arms in the air
Let the Lord know you’re there
There must be more that you can share, show that you care
Lift your arms in the air
You’ll see there’s nothing there
So many holes that only money can fill
Let the voices be still

Ha ha ha ha, let the guru guide you

My house is where you want go now
Pledge your vow
Join the cash cow

You let go
You tiptoed
You woke up naked and alone

Comments
The story of being led into a religious cult with all the certainty and madness that follows, and how the certainty is replaced with a dark loneliness when you finally decide to sneak away in the middle of the night.

7. Dusk

In the absence of light the walls are trembling
Warmth and beauty cease to exist
Well can you feel it? The room is screaming
My hands like iron around your neck

Blue light white car, why have you come
No sign you’ll find will point in my direction
The doctor tells me I need more sleep
More pills, more thrills, more deeds undone

But I don’t know if this is real
Blow the darkness away
Stains of blood on every wall
And an end to every fall

Nervous neighbors call down on me
Law and order with hands guns held high
They’re breaching the walls, now plaster and dust
Are raining down on a broken body

But I don’t know if this is real
Blow the darkness away
Stains of blood on every wall
And an end to every fall

Rain comes down through black clouds
Rain comes down through black clouds

But I don’t know if this is real
Blow the darkness away
Stains of blood on every wall
And an end to every fall

A sad and turbulent story of a very paranoid man who believes him self to be a serial killer. I was inspired by the film adaptation of America Psycho, where the main character also suffers from this delusion (in this respect it is very different from the book, which I honestly never read)
